FORMS OF THE MODERN

Tue, 09 Mar 2010 - Sun, 18 Jul 2010

Around thirty large sculptures belonging to the famous sculpture collection of Ca’ Pesaro are arranged in a completely new itinerary that enhances formal values and novel combinations.
The exhibition winds its way through the lavish area of Longhena’s entrance hall on the ground floor and the monumental second floor – over one thousand square metres of outstanding architectural value and light quality – recently returned to their use as a museum area, finally making it possible to exhibit works that have been inaccessible to the public for ages.
On the second floor, the diverse, stimulating relations between the sculptures and paintings are of particular interest – starting with the grandiose frieze by Giulio Aristide Sartorio, the Cycle of Life created for the Italian Pavilion at the 1907 Biennale and other canvases that are no less important – in a continuous study of comparison and dialogue between languages and expressive forms.
Curated by Silvio Fuso, Matteo Piccolo, Giandomenico Romanelli and Cristiano Sant, the exhibition is both the perfect example of recreating museum space and its arrangements, and the first date in Ca’ Pesaro’s 2010 programme, one that is almost exclusively dedicated to sculpture.

UTOPIA MATTERS: DALLE CONFRATERNITE AL BAUHAUS

Sat, 01 May 2010 - Sun, 25 Jul 2010

Utopia has long been a subject of investigation for artists, as well as a model for artistic communities, where an ideal society has sometimes been more easily realized than in a larger governmental context. Utopian groups evolved during the early 19th century and optimistically endeavoured to recraft society through art and design. They encompass brotherhoods, such as that of the German Nazarenes in Rome, the English Pre-Raphaelites, the rural family collective Camille Pissarro established at Eragny in the 1880s, up to the Bauhaus of the 1920s, which was predicated upon the utopian tenet of “building of the future”. Other movements addressed are Les Barbus, William Morris and Arts and Crafts, the Cornish Colony, Neo-Impressionism, De Stijl, and Russian Constructivism. This exhibition is organized together with Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin where it will be presented from January 22 – April 11, 2010.

Reflections and Realities

Thu, 18 Mar 2010 - Mon, 12 Apr 2010

The title stands for the relationship between Art and the reality itself, a re-emerging issue in the current debate with original features. A fundamental relation as we approach the experience of Art.

Today, these artists are here to deal with the perception of a general “malaise” that seems to restrain today's society. The difficulty is to be able to weave the disparate threads that cross a technologically advanced society, globalized and dominated by a virtual reality; fragmented and divided by contradictories. A society that carries fashions and social phenomena, religious beliefs in a amazing melting pot of media and consumerism that completely surrounds us, making it almost impossible to reach a true knowledge of reality able to go beyond the ambiguous propensity of the image. A mirror, a reflection of this narcissism voted to defeat, if not to dissolve in the excesses. These artists are here today to state the substantial failure of our system, pointing out the difficulty to arrive through this path to a convincing world view.

We are'nt claiming to find naive solutions to the today state of general crisis, but we have indeed the desire to contribute - at least in part – to that “return of the image” in the mirror, as a form of a brand new landscape and synapses of possible worlds. Trying to affirm that Art is no different to science in unravelling the mistery, unlocking anthropological perspectives and livable models in wich modern man can identify himself.
