Pietro Metastasio helped the spread of Italian in Europe and imposed it as the language of opera and theatre; it was a winged tongue, one to be heard and seen. The pupils of the Accademia 'Silvio d'Amico' decline its themes in a voyage marked by several destinations, ranging form Greece to the Canaries, ancient Roma to the sites of an Arcady of islands and bewitched forests, and on to a Chinese harem. And all without ever leaving their play room.
