The various “body” of the theatre

The 37th International Theatre Festival of the Venice Biennale, with the title Pompei – the story of the ashes, directed by Romeo Castellucci, will take place from Sept. 15 to 25. The underlying idea is to offer the spectator a real panorama of the theatre of the future, over nine days including shows, appearances, installations, performances and dialogues, for a total of more than 100 events. For this reason almost all of the shows take place in the area of the Arsenale, allowing audiences to more easily see the different shows and stay in the proximity, given the peculiar care taken with the areas involved: the reflection area, for those who love exploring what they have seen; the Food area, for those who want to relax and eat; the Garden area, for conferences; the Exhibition area with two photographic exhibitions by Francesco Raffaelli and Hiroshi Sugimoto.

The Festival begins with a performance of electronic interference by a Swedish composer, Hausswolff, in order to “drag” the public from one show to another, making them participants in the “blind choreography” of London’s Bock & Vincenzi and the plastic-visual transcription of the Shostakovich concert by Russian artists. There are also the optical room by the Italian group Ortographe, the fire theatricals of the “pyro-expressionist” artist Kevin Brinkert, the creations of Mark Bain, who transforms the stage into the cosmos, the “physics” show by Maria Donata D’Urso and the Last Scene by visual artists Carloni and Franceschetti. All told, it promises to be 11 days packed with emotion and surreal, lyrical visions.
