Teatro La Fenice - Ballet Season 2004/2005

In this late spring The Fenice Theatre is about to host 2 of the 3 most notable events dedicated to 20th-century dance.

They are both the symbol of modern history of art based on chorus.

On May 5th, 6th and 7th, there will be Béjard Ballet Lausanne.

The Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris’s performance is scheduled for May, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th.

They will dance Sylvia (choreography by John Neumeir, music by Léo Delibes, scenes and costumes by Yannis Kokkos).

On July, 8th the celebrated star Pina Bausch will start performing Fur dieKinder von Gestern Heute und Morgen, with her Tanztheater Wuppertal.

The performances Maurice Béjart will dance at The Fenice date back to 1961 (The Bolero) and to 1970 (L’oiseau de Feu) respectively.

Those were the years in which he founded Le Ballet du XXe siècle in Bruxelles and which he worked with until 1987. In this year he left Brussels and moved to Lausanne, to give birth to the Ballet Bèjart Lausanne.

On May, 12th it will be the time for the above-mentioned prestigious French corps of ballet, which will perform Sylvia, a dance inspired by Torquato Tasso’s Aminta, a pastoral play.

Finally, as for the dance scheduled for July, it is enough to say that this will be the very first time the choreographer and director Pina Bausch will appear in Italy.

The Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch company will perform at the rebuilt Venice theatre La Fenice together with the scene-director Peter Pabst and the costume designer Marion Cito.

These two have been Pina Bausch’s faithful collaborators for many years.
