As well as the magic and splendour of the Riviera Fiorita, on 25 October the area features in another race for a 'place in history' - the Venice Marathon, much more than just a sporting event. Venicemarathon's course is one of the most scenic in the world, with start in Stra and finish in Venice, Riva Sette Martiri.

The first 20 kilometres are in the Riviera del Brenta and follow the course of the river. While running in a typical countryside landscape, rich with vegetation, athletes can spot several mansions of the 18th century. The marathon goes through the centre of Marghera and Mestre and gets to Venice via the Liberty Bridge (a flat and straight bridge long just a little less than 4 kilometres). The race proceeds in the Venice port area and reaches the city centre for the last kilometers, that are simply unique. Marathoners run next to the Giudecca Canal, then, from Punta della Dogana, they cross the Grand Canal on a floating bridge (which is set up for the race and is 160 m long). Running next to Piazza San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale, the athletes reach Riva Sette Martiri in the picturesque waterfront of Venice where the finish line is located.
