The Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa is proud to present the first solo show in Italy of Enrico David (Ancona, 1966), which will open to the public on Tuesday, May 31 at 6.30pm. The exhibition, curated by Milovan Farronato and hosted in Palazzetto Tito, constitutes an important step in his artistic career, largely developed abroad.
It was in fact in London that David received his education, at the Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, where he presented his debut works in a number of alternative spaces, and where established his first collaboration agreements with private galleries. From 2001 to 2004, he also worked as Painting Professor at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, while he received his first institutional recognition in 2005 with solo shows at the Tate Britain and then at the Institute of Contemporary Art in 2007. In 2009 he was one of the four Turner Prize finalists.
The exhibition Repertorio Ornamentale consists of a double interpretation of Heimat and investigates a nature divided between origin and belonging. It is a reflection on ending a year of work in Basel at the Stiftung Laurenz-Haus residency program. Repertorio Ornamentale is in fact also a question of translation, languages, concepts and aspects of the self which are declined in precincts and circumstances, attitudes and approaches. Thus there are different words that transit through characterizing.
