Maria Grazia Galatà, born in Palermo, has lived and worked in Venice Mestre for years. Her poetic streak has been evident since she was a young girl. In 2002 she took part in 'Underwood', in Ascona (Switzerland) together with other famous contemporary poets. In 2003 she published the book called “Congiunzioni” (Conjunctions), with photography by Costantino Spatafora. In 2005, she presented a collection of thirteen poems at the Romanian Institute of Culture in Venice, called “La struttura dell'ansia” (The Structure of Anxiety), accompanied by two musicians, Luca Callice and Marco Agostini playing the Bendhir and the Didgeridoo respectively. In the same year, for the 51st Venice Biennale, she took part in Marco Nereo Rotelli’s event “La notte dei Poeti” (The Night of the Poets) with Ana Blandiana and other internationally well-known poets.
For “La Pace non ha Colore?” (Doesn’t peace have a colour?) event in 2005, in Castel San Pietro (Bologna) organised by Anna Boschi, she read her collection of poems called “Non a caso” (Not by Chance). Again in 2005, working together with Costantino Spatafora, she took part in the “Padiglione Italia” (Italy Pavilion) edited by Philippe Daverio and published by Rizzoli at the end of 2007. For years her work has been published in contemporary art magazines, including “Offerta Speciale” by Carla Bertola, and minternational art catalogues. In July 2010 she released “L'altro” (The Other), a collection of poems and photographs with a preface written by Gio Ferri. “L’altro”, an extremely powerful multimedial piece, represents perhaps the high point of Galatà’s poetic pursuit: where the soul and the world are compared with a sense of profound dramatic strength. Presentation by Francesca Brandes.
