Laganse’s work traces the connections between her understanding of capitalism and her guilty fascination of popular TV shows like the Voice and Master Chef. She humorously employs the psychological and physical culture of gambling, chance and play to engage anticipation, thrill, disappointment, and suspense. She is conflicted with and entertained by the strategies and romanticism employed by popular culture and its money driven mandates. Oscillating between faith and greed, informed intelligence and instinct, hope and despair, this capitalistic structure within which we function can be perceived as a binary model - one that directs our behaviours to support it so that it becomes more and more entrenched as a self-sustaining machine. Laganse challenges and considers structures and systems of organizations that impact and reinforce capitalist models such as team sports, religion, and education. Through her work, Laganse questions her role and consensual participation within these systems.
