Regarding the general process of 'rehabilitation' of film music, in recent decades, and also advocated by many illustrious names of musicology, it is important to undertake a serious and careful reflection on the historical sources that have accompanied the history of since birth seventh art. Contain these sources, which crowded the musicological journals and periodicals and film in general, and to investigate the links problematic that gradually open reading them becomes a basic requirement to start analytical studies on film music, artistic expression than ever problematic that has always woven a dense network of relationships with other contemporary artistic experiences.
A moment of reflection, in this sense, was opened in May 2011 at the Fondazione Ugo and Olga Levi in Venice in a first study meeting which was attended by sixteen scholars from Italy, Austria, Germany and the United States who have long devoted their research in this direction and that, in some cases, were the real pioneers. Following the verification of the proposed themes, operational tools, the effectiveness of the methods of investigation and, in general, the nature of the issues raised by the research carried out so far in this field of study, has thus come to an initial survey of the results achieved which will be available with the publication of the acts of those days. Just after the success of this initiative has matured the plan to organize further study meetings every two years who present themselves as the natural continuation of the process started two years ago.
