The conference - organized at the end of the three year degree course 'expert project' - explores the difficult relationship between Venice and the modern architecture from the Second World War to the present. The historic Venice, the world capital of art and culture, 'moved away' modern architecture on multiple occasions: new interventions are in fact largely attributable to small renovations or changes in the restoration/renovation. And when they are made, rarely have achieved excellence that the city-monument deserves and demands. The conference will deal with these matters at first on a wide-ranging cultural and then deepen the backstory trying to identify the reasons for missed achievements and subsequently analyzing the new songs that intend to enhance urban Mestre and especially the Venetian hinterland.
