The Museum of Russian Impressionism , born around Boris Mints’ private collection, will be opened later this year. A much awaited –for event, revealed in advance in several previews like this one in Venice. “Russian impressionism” may refer to that style in painting that flourished in Russia after it did in France with the perseverance of Russian artists in elaborating this expressive language for a good part of the XX century. It cannot be reduced to a provincial variety of French Impressionism nor to the occasional caprice of a handful of artist.
