A lecture by Giorgio Riello, Professor of Global History and Culture and Director of Warwick’s Institute of Advanced Study, on
Luxury Capitalism: Places, Spaces and the Pervasiveness of Luxury
Professor Riello will present a look at his forthcoming book Luxury: A Rich History (Oxford University Press 2015) co-written with Peter McNeil (University of Technology, Sydney). He will consider how luxury retailing is colonising the spaces of our cities – a phenomenon particularly marked in Northern Europe but now noticeable also in città d’arte such as Venice.
This lecture, presented by the University of Warwick in collaboration with the Circolo Italo-Britannico, forms part of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the University’s foundation. In half a century Warwick University has built a worldwide reputation for the excellence of its research, teaching and public engagement. Warwick’s Venice Centre is an integral part of the University’s identity and a testimony of its continuing commitment to an international presence.
