Natura

At Expo Venice Aquae, within the “Italy – China United Pavilion” exhibition, the exhibition “Nature” was inaugurated. The exhibition includes paintings by two of the most renowned contemporary Chinese artists: Hou Chunyang and son I Yan. The exhibition is open until 31 October.

The 36 works are part of the traditional Chinese artistic trend called “Flower – and – Bird – Paintings” characterized by strong references to nature with a preference for subjects such as birds, flowers, insects and grasslands.

“It’s the second time I’m in Italy, I am very happy that my works are on display in this pavilion – said Huo Chunyang. – These days I visited many museums and appreciated Italian paintings, I’m here to present a traditional view of Chinese art but also to draw inspiration from Western and contribute, with the meeting of cultures, to explore new aesthetic views”.

“We open the exhibition with two Chinese artists who, in the name of tradition, have collected images that evoke the beauty and peace of nature, – said Cesare De Michelis, President of Expo Venice S.p.a. – They are works depicting flowers, birds and images of a world where man is present in the context of natural beauty. This shows China’s interest in this pavilion and in the city of Venice. The exhibition also confirms that art and nature are themes that China has in the heart. “

The art of Huo Chunyang (born in 1946, Qingyuan, Hebei) is characterized by a deep understanding of Chinese traditional culture – the dynasties of Yuan, Ming, Qing – that is interwoven with the fascination for nature and a strong interest in ethereal and dreamlike art. In his works, in the tradition of intimate literati, he shows the artistic conception of a painting of synthesis that is founded on the values of purity and authenticity. The rapid changes of the pictorial sign (thin, slow, fast) aim to convey the sense of the mutability of human thoughts and feelings.

Huo Chunyang is selected in 1997 as one of the top 100 Chinese painters by the China Federation of Literature and Art. Many of his works have been collected in the Great Hall of the People, the National Art Museum of China, the Memorial Hall of Mao, the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, the CCTV and other foreign museums. He has participated in artistic exchanges abroad.

His son, Ho Yan (born in 1979) was graduated at the Department of Chinese Painting Academy of Fine Arts in Tianjin in 2001, he specialized in hand-painted free nature paintings in 2003 and he began teaching in 2006 at the Academy. He is currently deputy director of the Multidisciplinary Department of Paintings, a member of the Association of Artists of Tianjin and deputy director of the Youth Committee of Tianjin.
