Open one of the guidebookspublished between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and compareit with the tourist publications from the twentieth and twenty-firstcenturies, and what jumps off the page is the overlapping advice onsightseeing:the Doge's Palace and Saint Mark's Basilica, the Rialto Bridgeand the haberdashery shops (the Mercerie), a watery stroll along theGrand Canal, Renaissance paintings, and a coffee in Saint Mark'sSquare. These are by and large the destinations in a city that hasnever had to work hard to attract visitors. Exhibition is curated by Angela Vettese and Marco Bertozzi
