Exhibitions of Adrian Tuchel

This exhibition of original watercolours is staged in the historic site of the Magazine del Sale, in one of the Pavilions, which has been recently restored and returned to its old splendour. Encircling a selection of historic Venetian rowing boats, the exhibition includes an architectural tour of palaces, churches and monuments of the Castello district. After his last Venice Exhibition in Palazzo Franchetti in 2014, this is the third part of an ongoing project of biennial exhibitions, which coincide with the Venice Architecture Biennale. In eight years time the exhibitions will have covered all of Venice including the Laguna and the possessions of the Serenissima.

Tuchel’s work is the result of a combination of artistic talent and architectural study – this has led to a highly personal style, which combines the quest for minimalism and transparency, as well as using bright and vivid colours. The drawings in black and white and the watercolours show well known and re-discovered places, through new angles, reducing the view to an essential impression.

Jean Cocteau remarked that in Venice ‘Pigeons are walking and lions fly’, the works of Tuchel ‘take flight’ between light and shadow, between deceit and enchantment, between the sweetness and toughness of the lagoon. His drawings have the lightness of air and the depth of water, viewed not only through the artist’s eye but also the eye of an architect.

This exhibition includes panoramic views of Venice, large pieces and a portrait of Venetian daily life with sketches and impressions of shops, markets, cafés and bars, forming a unique and exciting tour of the city.

Homage to the Venetian Architects: Following several commissions of works for the famous Hotel Danieli, Tuchel discovers architectural details of this unique institution which he presents in his works. From the roof terrace with its view across the whole of Venice, to the interior including the magnificent hall and staircase, the prestigious suites, the bar and restaurant, where international celebrities have been entertained in the past and continue to return today, Tuchel captures the very essence of the beauty and personality of the hotel.

All works are for sale. Private viewing by arrangement. The proceeds from the exhibition will go to support the New Europe Society of Cambridge, which organises cultural events in prestigious venues of Cambridge University.

Adrian Tuchel is a member of the ‘Association on Architect Artists’ of London, The Ruskin Society and the Turner Society and of Open Studios in Cambridge where he lives and works.
