In an inn in Florence, the owner, Mirandolina, receives continuous amorous offers from two aristocrats customers, the Marquis of Forlipopoli and the Earl of Albafiorita; however, Mirandolina focuses all its attention on the misogynous Knight of Ripafratta, determined to sweep him. This behaviour is tormenting Fabrizio, waiter of the inn, fallen in love with the owner. The story become more exciting at the arrivals of two comedians, Ortensia and Dejanira, who try to cheat the noble guests of the inn.
