Glass is an important material in the experimental work of Australian artist Rosslynd Piggott, born in Melbourne in 1958. For three years Piggot worked in Murano in perfect harmony with the maestro Maurizio Vidal, an expert engraver who more than any other has learned the secrets of his art. Through the series of works Garden Fracture / Mirror in Vapour, viewers “enter” refractive and reflective surfaces to then visually wander in a fantastic garden, captured by a myriad of overlapping rounded lenses superimposed on broken wisteria branches, falling cherry blossom leaves and mature peony flowers. In this way the ancient art of engraving assumes an unprecedented form of aesthetic expression, in which glass opens a new dialogue between the viewer and the narrator-artist, who has chosen as her theme a poetic interpretation of the world of flowers. _ Curated by Chiara Squarcina, Francesca Giubilei, Luca Berta
