The idea of establishing the VENICEMARATHON emerged several years ago from the desire to assess the compatibility between the most ancient and best loved city of the world and the most classical and fascinating sport: it was based on the strong belief that this enterprise could provide yet another way of interpreting Venice and to experience a Marathon. It is the athletics events that is most followed by the media, one of the most fascinating and evocative marathon races in the world. Venicemarathon started in 1986 based on an idea of its founder, Piero Rosa Salva – who is today the Honorary Chairman of the club – who waged he would be able to organise a marathon in Venice. The event has grown over the years until reaching the title of most important marathon in Italy.
