Saturday 10 April, in the rooms of Palazzetto Tito, the exhibition Common Ground: Projects for the Lagoon will open to the public, presenting new works by Marjetica Potrč and Marguerite Kahrl and the works of the students who took part in the workshop Sustainable Venice, led at IUAV by Marjetica Potr in the first months of 2010. With theč participation of Yona Friedman. The show will be accompanied by a brochure, containing a purpose made essay by Lucy R. Lippard.
In the galleries of Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation, Marjetica Potrc will present to the public the series of drawings Venice Case Study and The New Great Republic of Venice.
Marguerite Kahrl exhibits Tender Dominion, a series of sculpture and drawings depicting strategies for water harvesting. The drawings, which take the form of Patent applications,
are a means to share experiments while commenting on the trend to patent living processes and means of survival. The show will also exhibit the works created during the workshop Sustainable Venice. The working group reached across disciplines between art and architecture to imagine the future of Venetian lagoon as a sustainable environment, constructing a functioning rainwater harvesting system at a farm on Sant Erasmo Island.
The growers at Azienda Agricola Finotello – that stopped selling their products to supermarkets and began selling directly to local residents, receiving thereby the Italian prize for zero kilometres initiatives - currently irrigate crops using a combination of well water and municipal water. The Rainwater Harvesting system (re)introduces rainwater as a valuable resource for the farm, allowing the water collected from the roofs of two
greenhouses to be used to irrigate crops inside them. This irrigation system is powered by solar panel, lessening the energy footprint of the farm.
