Venecie mundi splendor: sulle tracce di Johannes Ciconia

As part of the Festa della Sensa in 2012, the medieval music ensemble laReverdie holds a new project dedicated to Johannes Ciconia, dead in Padua in July 1412. LaReverdie dedicated a program to the great composer of Liege, whose activity is closely related to the city of Padua, Venice and more generally the area of Lombardy and Veneto. Starting from the choice not to include liturgical compositions, the challenge was to cut the original project, retracing the steps of the production of the musical composer, looking for his ties to patrons, clients, patrons, but also with his contemporary musicians. Ciconia's work testifies, in fact, his extraordinary ability to absorb, and make own styles, languages and genres with which he came into contact in Italy in an era full of experimentation and stylistic influences: from the motet Italian style to `Justinian ', from madrigals and ballads of flavor to the songs in a refined style belonging to the so-called ars subtilior. The program de laReverdie intends to shed light on this peculiarity of the work of Ciconia and, in order to highlight its links with the Italian tradition, have been matched to some of his most significant works by contemporary authors. The reconstruction of a styling becomes an opportunity to retrace the steps of Ciconia biography, from his arrival in Rome, still very young, the Visconti court in Pavia and then, from 1401 until his death in Padua, where he was charged with the job description the cathedral and shook ties with the local nobility, and the high ecclesiastical offices. When the city of Padua was annexed to the Republic of Venice, in 1406, Ciconia composed to celebrate this event, the motet, which gives the title to the project that occurs on this occasion.
