L'elisir d'amore is an opera in two acts by Gaetano Donizetti(text by Felice Romani). The opera was staged for the first time on May 12 in 1832 at the Theatre Cannobiana of Milan, which had commissioned it to replace a work that had not been prepared in time by another author. Romani had derived the text from a book written the year before by Eugène Scribe for the composer Daniel Auber, Le Philtre (the filter). At first sang Heinefetter Sabina (in the role of Adina), Giuseppe Frezzolini (Dulcamara), Henry Bernard Debadie (Belcore), Giovan Battista Genero (Nemorino).
