Why do people talk about environmental protection being a priority at the global level, yet we still witness continuous environmental deterioration? Why can’t the major environmental emergencies (such as those affecting the climate, biodiversity and the seas) be managed globally even though they occur on a global scale? What role can the European Union play in environmental protection both at home and in the world? These are some of the topics that the book seeks to address in an innovative way, beginning by looking at the legal framework in the environmental protection field which is created beyond the national legal framework, yet nevertheless has a strong influence on the life and habits of people and businesses. The authors critically consider the educational process, the content and the effects of transnational environment laws, addressing in particular topics such as the marine environment, waste management, climate change, trade and human rights.
