A Fable. Tigran Hymasyan (pianoforte)

Even if very young, the Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan, born in 1987, is already very famous all over the world. Indicated by Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea as one showing promise as a jazz player, he knows how to combine classical and jazz music, tradition and innovation in a skillful way. Winner of very prestigious international prizes, Tigran has recently moved to New York. He has played with Pierre Michelot and Daniel Humair, Dhafer Youssef and Lars Danielsson, releasing his first album as a leader in 2006, as part of a quartet with the saxophonist Ben Wendel. «New Era», of the following year, is characterized by the classic trio with double bass and drums. In his third Cd, «Red Hall», recorded with the Aratta Rebirth band, Tigran manages te combine with great expertise jazz and rock with Armenian folk music, while in «EP No. 1», which mixes jazz, electronics and rock, he testifies to his passion for the experimental avant–garde. Waiting for his new work as part of a quintet to be released, Tigran presents «A Fable» (Verve) in Venice. This is an album of solo–piano of 2011, in which he puts original compositions beside skillfully reworked traditional folk songs from his country, but also beside refined interpretations of jazz standards, among which a successful Someday my prince will come.
