One of the projects proposed by the great Meyerhold was to revise Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades, stripping the score and libretto of any detail that had not been originally present in Pushkin’s short story. In a certain way this project was similar to the one proposed by Boris Eifman, the choreographer, who is known for his experimental reinterpretation of the classics, whether ballet, music or literature, creating a powerful emotional experience. Onegin, produced in 2009, is the contemporary choreographic version of the famous novel in verse by Pushkin, combining classical music by Tchaikovsky with contemporary rock by Alexander Sitkovetsky, considered a pioneer of Russian progressive rock music
