He uses painting to relate the self to God and transmit a Christian message through art following a cryptic path that leads him to religious, mythological, philosophical and historical subjects. The power of representations of the body, symbolic references, scripture – these are the elements of an arcane and evocative art that is remade in the great spiritual tradition of Romanian Orthodoxy, revisiting and recombining the ancient icons and frescoes that decorate the churches and monasteries of Romania. A young artist-philosopher-mystic-Christian who, to give an idea of his personality, in the words of Andu Avasilinei, “spends 1000 hours thinking and 1000 hours studying perspective, anatomy and composition in order to prepare a painting, then takes 200 hours to paint it.
Samir Mihail Vancica was born in Bucharest in 1988. He graduated in painting at the National University of Art of the Capital, then went on to take a course in “The Relationship between Science, Religion and Philosophy in the Perspective of Orthodox Christianity”. He has been exhibiting since 2004. In addition to various exhibitions in Romania, he has exhibited in New York and Turin. He lives and works in Bucharest.
